Nothing is quite as simple as a white button-up blouse. It’s such an effortless piece that always classes up an outfit. Take this look for example. I’m wearing casual-looking ankle boots and jeans, but the white blouse somehow makes the whole look feel a little more professional. What a powerful article of clothing!
Fortunately for me, I scored this loose-fitting blouse from H&M a few months ago at a remarkably reasonable price (this one is no longer for sale, but you can find similar-looking blouses from H&M here and here). If you are looking for classic pieces to last you a long time, this is a good place to splurge. Decide what looks best on you—structured or loose-fitting—and find a blouse that works best with your style.
Amp the class factor with bold accessories. I adorned this look with my new and fabulous Michael Kors watch, which was a Christmas present from the husband, (Thanks husband!) and my favorite chunky necklace from a Banana Republic outlet store.

What are some of your favorite pieces of clothing to create a more professional-looking ensemble?
The weather has officially taken a turn for the worst. Not only does it get dark before I leave work, but I am cold ALL THE TIME. My staple wardrobe has basically become cozy sweaters, skinny jeans and boots. And every once in awhile, I’ll pair it with my adorable chunky stocking hat. (Especially on days where I don’t have time to completely style my hair.)
I took this outfit out to 715 Restaurant to enjoy happy hour. Because apparently enjoying TWO Thanksgiving dinners on the same day wasn’t enough food, I also had to stuff my face this weekend with pizza. I’m just keeping it real, guys.

This cold weather is really ruining my blogging mojo. By the time I come home from work it’s pitch black outside. Same thing on the weekends: By the time I’m ready for a night on the town, it’s too dark for good photos. But lighting problems aside, I was able to snap a picture of my outfit this weekend at The Westside Local in Kansas City, along with Laura from Laura Put Together.
So this photo is basically proof that I’m an Amazon. But despite my towering over Laura, I’m never giving up my weekend heels! This weekend, Laura and I were out to dinner celebrating our friend Kim’s birthday and we both found ourselves wearing leather leggings. Twinsies! I am clothed in black from head to toe, plus a little snakeskin. (Thanks for the shirt, Kim!) Because if you can’t dress head to toe in black in winter, when can you?

I’ve previously mentioned how much I love this new army cargo jacket from Old Navy. Well, it’s true. And because I’m just keeping things real, here it is on me again. I love it.
With Kansas being as indecisive as it is, I was able to wear my cargo jacket with one of my favorite lace dresses—one last time. Monday was 70 degrees. Tuesday? In the 30s. Welcome to the Midwest, folks.
Once the cooler weather comes in I still plan to wear a few of my favorite dresses with tights. But for this look, I was able to keep warm with just my brown booties and favorite jacket. I’m going to miss fall once winter rears its ugly head. Siiiigh.

Near the end of summer I scored a beautiful floral kimono from good ol’ Target. (Oh Target, how I love thee; let me count the ways.) All summer long I had been pinning some gorgeous bohemian looks with this particular trend, so when I found this beautiful print for sale I knew I had scored a good deal.
Even though this is primarily a summer trend, you can still wear it well into fall. It’s lightweight, so enjoy it before it gets too chilly outside. To make it fall appropriate, wear it with a pair of skinny jeans, ankle boots and a long bohemian necklace.
