My Nails: Deborah Lippmann | Happy Birthday

I hardly blog about beauty products, but I recently found something that I absolutely adore: Deborah Lippmann’s Happy Birthday nail polish.

I stumbled upon this polish at Beauty Brands. It reminded me of OPI’s Rainbow Connection, a nail polish I’ve been craving but have yet to buy for no reason other than I haven’t seen it for sale in a store. I put it on my nails on Saturday in preparation for The Hunger Games. It didn’t transform me into the girl on fire, but it definitely made me feel like Katniss in her second interview gown.

I love the myriad bright colors; it looks like confetti from a fabulous birthday party. And the best part is that it attracts a ton of compliments. So why not bring the party to a dull Monday at the office?

It takes about three to four layers before you can achieve this look above. And after it goes on, it feels very “texturey.” In the future, I would like to try applying just a couple coats of this polish over another color, perhaps a black or deep purple polish, for a different look all together.

Now that I’ve fallen in love with this sparkle polish, I have my eye on other colors from Deborah Lippmann. From left to right, these are the colors I’m currently coveting: Mermaid’s Dream, Candy Shop, Bad Romance, Across the Universe, Boom Boom Pow, I Love The Nightlife and Stairway To Heaven. Can’t you just picture these polishes on my nails? Just fabulous.

What about you? Are you coveting any nail polishes right now? Let me know in the comments section below. I may want them, too. 🙂

What I’m Craving: 26th Birthday Wishes

February is my month and I’m celebrating it the only way I know how: with all of my friends. And just because I really liked the birthday wish list I made for the big 2-5 last year, I decided to make another one for the even bigger 2-6.

1. Happy Endings, The Complete First Season

I discovered this show only a couple months ago, and I am so happy that I did. As far as I’m concerned, it’s shaping up to be the next Friends. (And if you know me at all, you know that’s a big statement coming from me, seeing as how I’m one of the biggest Friends fans out there.) The show features an ensemble cast, which is very similar to Friends, but doesn’t include a laugh track or the dated multi-camera set up. Six pals living in Chicago (formerly engaged couple Dave and Alex, married couple Brad and Jane, and single friends Max and Penny) face everyday drama as hilarity ensues. I highly recommend this show to anyone looking for a laugh. My library is just begging for this DVD addition.

2. Naked 2 eyeshadow palette by Urban Decay

I am a huge fan of Urban Decay. Their colors last all day and the company adds just the right amount of shimmer to their palettes, perfect for a girl who lives for glitter and sequins. This neutral set of eyeshadows would immediately put a smile on my face. Imagine all the endless color combinations I could enjoy. Limitless, just limitless.

3. Veronica flats by Tahari

As much as I love heels, I could use some more adorable flats for occasions that just don’t lend themselves to heels. These flats, found on Piperlime, will keep my style chic and casual. (I’m a 9, in case anyone was curious. :))

4. The Muppet’s Collection Rainbow Connection nail polish by OPI

Is there anyone on this planet who can listen to the Muppet’s classic “Rainbow Connection” and not lose themselves in a smile? If so, they must not have a soul. Harsh? Maybe. But I am a HUGE fan of the Muppets, and I just can’t fathom why anyone else wouldn’t be. I grew up on Muppet Babies and reruns of The Muppet Show, so of course I saw the new Muppet movie on opening night. And when I learned that OPI was releasing a Muppet collection, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one of the colors. So why, may you ask, have I not yet? Sheer laziness. Someone please surprise me with this glitter polish.

5. Cordoba clutch by Elliot Lucca

Clutches are the perfect addition to any night out. And this one (another Piperlime find) seems to fit me to a tee. I absolutely adore the color and gold braided chain. Just imagine me sporting it at fabulous parties and cocktail hours. Picture it!

Thanks for humoring me once again in what is basically a “I want all these things!” post. Now it’s my turn to humor you. What are you currently obsessed with? Leave me a comment and let me know. I’d love to check it out.

Getting Organized: How to Organize Your Jewelry

I love accessorizing, but my jewelry station has been in need of a major revamp for awhile now. It mostly consisted of a jewelry box my husband made back in high school and some additional trinket boxes thrown in. I could never find what I was looking for—necklaces would get tangled, earrings would get lost and it was just a big ol’ mess.

Enough was enough, so I went scouring shops for stylish storage options. I made the decision that, even though I would keep some of my rarely worn pieces safely stowed away in my closet-bound wooden jewelry box (such as my replica Heart of the Ocean necklace—don’t judge), I wanted my favorite jewelry pieces on display where I could see them. They are decorations in and of themselves.

This is what I’ve come up with for the time being. Most everything here was half off from Urban Outfitters. I love the small brass keys I found as well as the colorful dishes I’m using to store my bracelets. To replicate my set up, here are a few things you’ll need to find.

• A stylish mirror. I found this beauty at Hobby Lobby. Although I have it safely secured to my wall, I like that it looks like it’s just casually leaning there.

• Cute storage solutions. Mix it up. I particularly love my white stacked floral tray. I can store necklaces and bracelets in it as well as hang earrings from it. Include trays, hooks, stands, bowls and dishes to your jewelry display. Just don’t over-do it and avoid the potential for too much clutter.

• A scented candle. Check out Thymes for botanical candles that fill a room with floral fragrances. Their containers are beautiful and their scents are sensational.

• Fun picture frame. Add personality to your jewelry station. This particular photo is from New Year’s Eve in 2010.

Do you keep your jewelry on display? How do you manage to stay organized?

Let the Kanrocksas countdown begin.

As you may remember, I have been excited about Kanrocksas ever since I received my tickets in the mail back in early May. Well, tomorrow is the event and here are the essentials I actually ended up with. (And yes. The bottle of Stella is an essential.)

{I’m still mad at myself for missing out on that Ruche hat. It was already sold out the day I decided to go ahead and buy it. Oh well. I like this one just as well.}

Aside from the great musical guests (Muse, Eminem, OK GO, Flogging Molly and Girl Talk, to name a few), here are even more reasons to get excited about the first ever Kanrocksas music festival: There will be a water slide, a Ferris wheel, fireworks, fire dancers, bungee jumping and beer from Free State Brewing!

Let the countdown begin.

Will I see you at Kanrocksas this weekend? What are you most excited about?
